Frequently asked questions
Does this add a real open-password to the PDF?
No. Browser-based tools cannot apply true user-password (open-lock) encryption. This applies owner-level copy/print restrictions. For open-passwords, use Adobe Acrobat or a desktop tool.
Are my files uploaded?
No. All processing stays in your browser.
Will restrictions prevent all editing?
They discourage copy/print in most viewers, but any restriction can be stripped by determined tools. Use content-level protection for truly sensitive data.
Can I unlock a restricted PDF later?
Yes — our Unlock PDF tool removes owner-level restrictions.
Does the recipient need my password?
For owner-level restrictions, no. For true user-password protection, yes — apply that via Adobe or a desktop tool.
Is there a file-size limit?
No hard cap; limited only by your browser memory.
