Why redact PDFs in the browser?
Redaction is one of the few tasks where "we upload your file to our server" is a terrible answer. Every mainstream online redactor sends your sensitive PDF to a third party before letting you cover it up. Is redaction permanent?
The visual black bars are permanent in the downloaded PDF. For true forensic-grade redaction that strips the underlying text, use desktop tools like Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Does the text under the black bar still exist?
This tool overlays a visible black rectangle. The original text is covered but may be recoverable with specialized tools. For truly sensitive content, redact + flatten + rasterize using a desktop tool.
Is this really free?

Are my files uploaded?
