TD1 Form — Download and Fill Online (Canada 2026)

The TD1 Personal Tax Credits Return tells your employer how much income tax to withhold from your paycheque. New employees fill out both a federal TD1 and a provincial TD1. Download them, fill them in your browser, and send them to HR.

Who needs this form?

  • New employees starting a job — your employer must have a signed TD1 before your first paycheque.
  • Employees whose personal situation changed (new dependent, became a student, moved provinces, started receiving a pension).
  • Pensioners starting or changing a pension.
  • Anyone claiming more than the basic personal amount in tax credits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I fill out a TD1 every year?

Only if your personal situation changed or your employer asks for a new one. The TD1 stays in effect until updated.

What is the basic personal amount for 2026?

Check the current federal TD1 on canada.ca — the basic personal amount is indexed to inflation each year and shown on line 1 of the form.

Do I need both federal and provincial TD1?

Yes. The federal TD1 covers federal tax; the provincial TD1 (TD1ON, TD1BC, TD1AB, etc.) covers provincial tax. Both are required.

Can I claim too much and owe at tax time?

Yes. Over-claiming on your TD1 results in too little tax withheld. If you expect to owe at year-end, request additional tax deductions on page 2.

Where do I send the completed TD1?

To your employer's payroll department. Do NOT send TD1 forms to CRA — they are kept by your employer.

Are my files uploaded to this site?

No. Our editor and signer run entirely in your browser. Your SIN and other personal details stay on your device.
